Local Whit’s Frozen Custard franchisees, Craig and Melissa Walker, expect to open their latest outpost at 7906 Land O’ Lakes Blvd around the first or second week of November, according to Craig Walker. However, the husband-and-wife team has larger expansion plans for the greater Tampa region going into next year.

“We would like to expand to, probably, another four shops over the next several years,” Craig Walker tells What Now Tampa, adding that they also intend to open a food trailer that they’ll “be able to take around town.”

At the moment, the Walkers don’t have any leases signed for subsequent locations. Nevertheless, eager to hold onto the exclusive rights within their territory, they have every intention of growing their footprint.

To date, Florida is home to 17 Whit’s locations, with another seven listed as “coming soon,” including one in St. Petersburg, according to the company’s official website.

Founded in 2003 in Granville, Ohio, by husband-and-wife Chuck and Lisa Whitman, Whit’s Frozen Custard prides itself on creating a product “with the same pure ingredients as a century ago; cream, eggs, and sugar,” resulting in a treat that’s “thicker, smoother, and creamier than ice cream.”
