Red Mesa Rounds Out the Year With Two New ‘Foodie Destinations’

While one location is a familiar name for Red Mesa fans, the other is a decidedly newer concept.

Red Mesa Group, the St. Petersburg-based restaurateurs behind eponymous outposts Red Mesa Restaurant, Red Mesa Cantina, and Red Mesa Mercado, recently announced two new additions to its portfolio – a second Red Mesa Mercado located in the former digs of The Reading Room and Two Graces at 6001 Central Ave., as well as a food truck dubbed Quatro that will be parked in front of Green Beach Brewing beginning later this month.

The new Red Mesa Mercado, slated to open in late 2022 or early 2023, will be taking its cues from the Cali-Mex quick service concept that defines its flagship predecessor, which has been operating in St. Petersburg’s Edge District since 2014, with classics such as the birria platter, pork tamales, chile relleno burrito, and more.

Meanwhile, Quatro – which began as a ghost kitchen at Red Mesa Cantina during the COVID-19 pandemic – will be an entirely new venture and concept for a brand that’s primarily built its reputation on Mexican and Latin fare, instead focusing on “American cuisine with a St. Pete spin.”

“At Red Mesa Group, we hail from spectacularly different walks of life,” the company said in a press release provided to What Now Tampa. “We are telling the story of Mexican, Latin, and American dishes inspired by the people and places of this community. The Bay Area doesn’t limit itself, and neither do we. We make mindful business decisions that connect the flavors of our family; further the prosperity of our team members and purveyors; and enrich the communities we live in. We seek opportunities to create new concepts that enliven the senses through inspired settings, graceful service, and genuinely good food that is influenced by the flavors of our youth.”
