Details Emerge for Sparrow, St. Pete’s Moxy Hotel by Marriott Rooftop Bar

Billed as an upscale bar ‘but not a velvet-rope kind of vibe,’ the retro-inspired space will take cues from its Fort Lauderdale counterpart, without emulating it outright.

Marriott’s newest boutique hotel, Moxy, which is currently being developed in downtown St. Pete’s Edge Collective, located at 1234 Central Ave, will feature a rooftop bar dubbed Sparrow, which is set to open early 2024, according to local media outlet St. Pete Rising.

Moxy Hotel by Marriott is being developed by three groups; Wurzak Hotel Group, its DoveHill Capital Management arm, and PTM Partners.

In an interview with St. Pete Rising published last month, Jake Wurzak, president of Wurzak Hotel Group said that the 60s-inspired Sparrow – which also has an iteration atop The Dalmar Hotel in Fort Lauderdale – is an upscale bar, but that it eschews the “velvet-rope kind of vibe.”

What’s more, while Moxy’s Sparrow will take cues from its counterpart in the southeast, “it’s not a cookie-cutter concept,” and will both evoke and respond to St. Pete’s unique culture.

For instance, Wurzak told St. Pete Rising, “The person writing the beverage menu is from St. Pete, so he should be available to draw inspiration based on his experience living and growing up in the area.”

Similarly, Sparrow’s Asian-inspired food menu with seafood and steak flourishes will also be “similar to the Fort Lauderdale location but tailored more to St. Pete.”

Simply put, Wurzak said, “we are bringing it to St. Pete because it has been so successful in Fort Lauderdale. And we think a lot of what we did in Fort Lauderdale will do fantastic in St. Pete,” while still making room for “some additional enhancements.”
