Established in 1953, Dairy Kurl is Clearwater’s oldest ice cream shop, serving the community for nearly seventy years. Currently located at 1555 Gulf to Bay Blvd., the brand is preparing to expand to a second location in Dunedin, at 1606 Achieva Way, and a third at 310 Main Street in Safety Harbor.

“We’re trying to celebrate 70 years by opening a few more,” said owner Morton Myers in a phone conversation with What Now on Monday morning.

Myers was born and raised in Clearwater.

“I grew up next to some of the previous owners and fell in love the little red & white ice cream shop known as the Dairy Kurl,” Myers said on the first anniversary of the brand’s reopening several years ago. “My wife and I both graduated from Clearwater High School and we have 4 young beautiful children. So, we are local and we understand what making good memories means to families and we share the love for small businesses and for our small business. We are here for the long haul and we plan to keep the legacy of Dairy Kurl going for years to come and forever if we can help it.”

The Achieva Way location will feature indoor seating, allowing guests to enjoy Dairy Kurl’s menu of frozen treats even in inclement weather. These include everything from simple cones to more elaborate sundaes and banana splits, to Kandy Kurls, Soda Floats, and Shaved Ice. After the opening of the two upcoming locations, Myers says, Dairy Kurl is also working on a fourth.

“We look to being open and being able to serve those areas,” Myers said.
