As recent coverage by St. Pete Rising notes, the Drink St. Pete Group “encourages former employees that have been loyal to the Drink St. Pete family to open and own bars under the Drink St. Pete brand. Former bartenders that will own There Goes the Neighborhood include Jeff Williams, Bill Arundel, Benny Hatfield, and Monique Grespan.”

What Now spoke with Monique Grespan about the new concept on Friday. Grespan said the opening is expected before the end of the year. Grespan, too, stressed the importance of having a place for locals in a constantly changing city.

“We’ve all been in the hospitality industry here,” Grespan said of the ownership team. “A lot of us are born and raised here. And we just wanted a place where people can come, relax, and enjoy themselves.”

The bar will feature a food menu too, Grespan said—eventually.

“That may come a little after we open.”

Opening in a large space at 129 First Avenue North, There Goes the Neighborhood will also boast dartboards, pool tables, a Gold Tee Golf arcade machine, and other entertainments, the St. Pete Rising coverage adds. Membership will be strongly encouraged: a one-time $20 fee gets you access to 15-25% discounts and a loyalty points system.
