“It’s not going to be just regular coffee,” co-owner Frank Segui told What Now on Wednesday. “Everything is going to be made in-house. It’s going to be something that will keep people coming back for more.”

Segui’s business partner, Rafael Rodriguez, is the chef behind K-picu, which offers modern Puerto-Rican fusion cuisine next door. He brings thirty years’ of experience as a chef to the project. As for Segui, he grew up working in his grandmother’s cafe in Puerto Rico; he has a lifetime of experience with coffee.

“My grandmother is from the center of the island,” said Segui. “I helped with everything since I was little, picking up the beans, setting them on a concrete slab to dry. Grinding, roasting, sifting. I learned what a good coffee should taste like.”

Segui has a strong DIY-orientation with the Creamy Tiki Spot, whose spacious interior is expected to seat 40-50 guests and features a mural of a sunset with palm trees painted by Segui himself. No opening date has been determined just yet, but work is well underway.
