A new cat cafe is headed to Downtown Plant City. Catnip Cafe and Adoption Lounge is preparing to open its doors on the southeast corner of South Collins Street and West Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, at 202 S Collins St. Once open, Catnip will serve beverages and small bites, working in partnership with Plant City’s Raining Cats and Dogs Shelter to foster cats and find them their forever homes.

“We’re really excited,” owner Desiree Lamb told What Now on Tuesday. “We have a big population of stray cats in Plant City, and Raining Cats and Dogs needs all the help they can get.”

Catnip Cafe and Adoption Lounge will serve up coffee drinks, a selection of herbal teas, and beer and wine, along with small bites and charcuterie boards. The cafe area seats 49, in addition to the lounge area where guests will meet the cats (who are already spayed or neutered with full vaccinations!).

“We really hope to increase the rates of adoption and give Plant City a great place to hang out,” Lamb said, adding that while Catnip has a mission, it will never pressure people to adopt. Adopting a pet is an important decision that should be made thoughtfully.

“We want to get them forever-homed,” Lamb said.
