“It’s going to be a massive upgrade to what he had in Tampa,” Tim McTague told What Now on Tuesday afternoon. “We’ve been working out of a 250-square-foot, and this one is about six times that size.”

McTague and Young come out of longstanding Florida rock bands Underoath and Anberlin, and McTague says the touring experience informs their approach to the restaurant space, especially given King State’s focus on live music.

“It’s community-based,” McTague said. “Like on tour, where you take care everyone. People help each other out.”

Currently, King State offers a coffee menu that includes the full range of espresso drinks, drip coffee, and cold brew coffee. Breakfast choices like the Breakfast Sandwich and the classic-style Breakfast Plate (eggs, bacon, toast, and grits or fruit) appear alongside pastries like the Cinnamon Roll and the Gluten Free Peanut Butter Cookie. Lunch sandwiches include the Turkey Brie and the 515 Reuben.

McTague says the menu will receive a considerable update in the St. Pete location, with the rollout of a dinner menu, along with a full bar from open to close, and a killer brunch program. King State St. Pete is working toward a Summer 2023 opening.

“We’re super excited to take what we do in Tampa and serve the other side of the bay,” McTague said.
